The Mathematics Department of Shalom Hills International School commemorated National Mathematics Day by organizing the Inter-House Mathematics Quiz titled Math Master Mind for students of Classes VII and VIII.
The event witnessed spirited participation from all the four Houses—Oak, Ebony, Maple, and Cedar—each represented by a confident two-member team, comprising one student each from Class VII and VIII. The atmosphere was electric, resonating with cheers and encouragement as students passionately rallied behind their respective Houses.
The quiz unfolded across four thoughtfully curated rounds—Mind Sparks (Icebreaker Round), Picture It! (Visual Round), The Lightning Lane (Rapid Fire Round), and Battle of Brains (Buzzer Round)—each meticulously designed to assess logical reasoning, analytical acumen, mental agility, and collaborative skills.
The participants exhibited remarkable confidence, clarity of thought, and presence of mind throughout the competition. Particularly noteworthy was their stellar performance in the Rapid-Fire Round, where teams demonstrated exceptional precision and speed under intense pressure. Following a keenly contested and exhilarating battle of intellect, Ebony House emerged victorious, exemplifying outstanding teamwork and mathematical excellence.
The event proved to be a resounding success, fostering a healthy competitive spirit, deepening appreciation for Mathematics, and promoting joyful, experiential learning—thus making the celebration of National Mathematics Day both meaningful and memorable.
With the exalted benedictions of our illustrious Founder and Chairperson, Dr Mrs Lilly George, and under the discerning and strategic aegis of our Sherpa & Vice Chairman - Mr. Dennis George, Shalom Hills International School unfurled the majestic canvas of its much-anticipated Investiture Ceremony for the academic session 2025–26 with resplendent glory and ceremonial grandeur.
This momentous occasion, steeped in tradition and gravitas, bore witness to the formal investiture of the newly constituted Student Council — a cohort of young visionaries poised to lead with honour, valour, and unswerving commitment.
The ceremony commenced with the invoking of the Lord’s blessings and a melodious rendition by the school choir. The Shalomites paid a heartfelt tribute to their revered MD Ma’am, whose indomitable spirit, unwavering guidance, and inspirational stewardship continue to illuminate the path of Shalom’s ascent and transformative legacy.
Gracing the occasion was our esteemed Sherpa & Vice Chairman Sir, whose wisdom, foresight, and sagacious leadership remain the enduring lodestar for the entire Shalom fraternity. In an act rich with sacred significance, the ceremonial lighting of the lamp was performed by Hon’ble VC sir, witnessed by the proud and beaming parents of our newly appointed leaders — a poignant tableau underscoring the profound synergy between home and institution in sculpting the leaders of tomorrow.
Marching smartly to the beat of the drum, the student body took their places on stage, ready to be formally vested with their positions. The apotheosis of the ceremony was the stately and solemn passing of the mantle. The outgoing Head Boy and Head Girl, embodying magnanimity, conferred the symbols of office — the sashes — upon their successors, thereby entrusting them with the legacy of excellence, integrity, and perseverance. The newly anointed leaders, in their earnest and evocative acceptance addresses, unveiled their vision and solemn pledge to uphold the school’s venerable ideals.
Subsequently, each member of the Student Council was ceremoniously adorned with sashes and badges — emblems of responsibility, honour, and trust. With hands raised and hearts resolute, they took the oath to serve with fidelity, to lead with humility, and to honour the rich heritage of their school.
The Investiture Ceremony stood not merely as a function, but as a resounding affirmation of Shalom Hills International School’s unwavering commitment to cultivating enlightened, principled, and inspired leaders of the future.
Diwali, the festival of lights, makes hearts and minds flow radiantly, inspiring joy, wisdom, and unity. This spirit of celebration was vividly evident as students from Grades VI to VIII enthusiastically participated in our inter-dynasty Diwali activities on 29 th October 2024.
The event was graced by the presence of our esteemed Founder and Chairperson, Dr. Mrs. Lilly George, whose support and encouragement added to the festive atmosphere.
In Class VI, students narrated the rich stories of Diwali through theatrical skits, sharing the cultural and moral lessons with pride. Others showcased their creativity by crafting heartfelt, handmade gifts that embodied the joy of giving. Class VII students took to the school corridors and grounds with an Eco-Friendly Diwali Campaign rally, proudly carrying colorful posters to raise awareness about sustainable practices, highlighting their commitment to the environment.
Class VIII students demonstrated remarkable creativity by designing travel brochures that captured the vibrancy of Diwali celebrations across India. They also developed an interactive history timeline, deepening their respect for cultural continuity and heritage.
Each activity was infused with energy and dedication, fostering values of teamwork, environmental responsibility, cultural pride, and generosity. This celebration truly ignited minds and hearts, transforming Diwali into an unforgettable learning experience for all involved.
"Empowering Voices, Igniting Change: A Journey Through Street Theatre"
A street play is an art form that differs significantly from traditional theatrical performances, offering a dynamic way to convey important messages. At Shalom Hills International School, an inter-house street play competition was organized, where students from the Cedar, Oak, Maple, and Ebony dynasties showcased their creative talents. The plays highlighted various themes, including environmental awareness, moral values, the excessive use of mobile phones, and patriotism.
Ebony dynasty secured the first position, followed by Oak in second place and Maple in third. The primary aim of this competition was to enhance students' oratory and acting skills while fostering greater self-confidence.
Beyond skill development, the event provided a platform for students to express social and ethical concerns creatively, encouraging teamwork and critical thinking. The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by the participants were a testament to their commitment to making a positive impact through art and storytelling. This enriching experience not only showcased their talents but also inspired the audience to reflect on the significant issues addressed in the performances.
"Humorous poetry is like a breath of fresh air; it brightens your mood and sharpens your
wit.
Activities are an effective way to bring colour and excitement to a regular school day along
with providing opportunities to children to display their talent. Recognizing poetry as a marvellous
medium for emotional expression and thoughtful contemplation, Shalom Hills International School
organized an Inter-Dynasty Hindi Hasya Kavita Competition for the students of classes IX and X.
The
competition held on 20 th May, 2024, provided students a splendid platform to express their emotions and
creativity through humorous and witty poems. The poems created a whimsical world where laughter reigned
supreme, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. The poems recited with humour and skill
brought together the participants and audiences alike in fits of laughter. The competition was a
delightful experience, with each student successfully tickling the audience's funny bone and bringing
smiles to their faces. The participants' cleverly crafted poems were delivered with such conviction that
they truly stood out, bringing glory to their respective Dynasties.
Through the art of poetry,
performers transported the audiences into a world of humour, reminding everyone of the universal
language of laughter. As the event culminated, it was evident that laughter truly is the best medicine.
At SHIS it is our continual endeavor to pass on the cultural values and traditions to the children
and prepare them to become the leaders with a strong value system for years to come. In order to
evoke the spirit of Diwali a pre- festive Inter dynasty Diwali activity was organized on November 6.
It resonated with the enthusiastic participation of students from all four dynasties – Cedar,
Ebony, Maple, and Oak, encompassing students across grades VI to VIII.
Guided by their dynasty
wardens and tutors the students participated in a rich tapestry of activities that allowed them to
connect with the cultural essence of Diwali, fostering a deeper appreciation for its traditions and
history. Grade VI, students delved deeper into the world of creativity by crafting Diwali- themed
Mandala art, adding intricate designs and colors to capture the essence of the festival.
Grade
VII students embarked on an imaginative journey by creating comic strips that either narrated a
traditional Diwali story or portrayed a modern Diwali celebration, combining their artistic
expressions with storytelling. Grade VIII students designed aesthetic travel brochures and posters
showcasing India as a must-visit destination during Diwali, offering insights into the festival's
cultural significance and regional variations. The event was orchestrated with great fervor and the
enthusiastic participation of students was truly remarkable.
"Dussehra is a reminder of the importance of truth and righteousness in our lives. Let's
follow the path of Dharma and conquer the evil within us."
The Dusshera
Inter-Dynasty Activities for the students of classes 6th to 8th, were a vibrant celebration of
cultural heritage and creative expression. Students exhibited remarkable enthusiasm and active
participation in the various activities organized for the occasion.
The class VI
enthusiasts presented skits based on the Ramayana. Portraying the roles of Lord Rama, Sita,
Lakshman, Hanuman, Ravana, Jatayu among others, the children exhibited their understanding of
the epic tale. This activity helped them understand the teachings imbued in the Ramayana and its
moral values.
The Grade VII students enriched their Dassehra related vocabulary through the
Dussehra Vocabulary Challenge. They created a list of Dussehra-related words and phrases. The
students defined them and imbibed the true essence of the embedded in the age-old
epic.
Grade VIII students showcased their creativity by making beautiful representations of
Dassehra related artefacts. Exploring the various weapons and artefacts associated with the
characters in the Ramayana (e.g., Lord Rama's bow, Hanuman's gada) through the activity
‘Dussehra Mythological Artefacts’, they discussed the ethical use of these weapons
for the good of humanity.
The Inter-Dynasty Dassehra gala was not just an event; it was a
celebration of cultural diversity, unity, and creativity. It allowed the students to explore and
embrace the traditions associated with Dusshera while fostering a strong sense of community.
Such events enrich the students holistic development and strengthen the bond within the school.
“Story telling is the most powerful way to put your ideas into the world.”
A
good story can imbibe the right values in the most impressionable age. Story telling is the
most efficient way of communication. At Shalom Hills International School, we believe that
story telling is an art form to express oneself.
On 24 th July,2023, an Inter Dynasty
Story telling competition was organized for grades III-V where our little storytellers
weaved magic onto their classmates and teachers with some lovely fables and showered morals
along with them. Generous use of props was also seen which added zing to the
activity.
Students were all the more excited as they performed out of their classrooms
and amongst their dynasty. The activity culminated with thunderous applause by all as
students learnt about multiple cultures and values observed and followed across our colorful
nation, India.
The activity helped the students in polishing their communication skills
and helped to boost confidence in public speaking.
Shalom Hills International School always thrives to cater to the all-round development of its students. The main focus of the school has always been on improving the Soft Skills and overall personality of the students. With this intention in mind, an Inter Dynasty Extempore Competition was held for the students of Class III to V on 1st February, 2023.
The objective of the competition was to make the students confident and better orators so that they can fearlessly express their views on any topic. Extempore is an excellent way to assist the students not only in spontaneous thinking but also in asserting their creative ideas with precision.
The participants delivered their speeches with great confidence and left no stone unturned to give their best on the topics they got. They were asked to present their views in the time slot of 2 minutes. The students were judged on the criteria of content, fluency, voice modulation and body language. The students showed great fervour and poise in their respective presentation.
Republic Day is the day when India marks and celebrates the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950. This replaced the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of India, thus turning the nation into a republic separate from British Raj. To instill patriotism as India celebrates its 74th Republic Day the Shalomites of Classes: III-V enthusiastically participated in the Dynasty activity held on 24 th January’23. Students creatively did the kite making activity . They were given coloured origami sheets and newspapers to make the kites. The students wrote patriotic slogans on their kites. All the students decorated their kites with the tri-colours. This activity helped in infusing a patriotic spirit in the students as well as instilling a sense of pride in them.
