Disaster Management is a combination of environmental, developmental and social issues
coupled with administrative directives, operational skills of an organization and its
capacities to implement those to lessen the adverse effects of an emergency. The other
important constituent of risk management is
precise information flow which in itself is a form of disaster response in its
own right. To handle the situation efficiently, we need to be well-equipped with latest
technologies.
With a view to develop a holistic, proactive, multi-disaster oriented and technology driven
strategy through a culture of prevention, mitigation, preparedness and response, the school
has formed a Disaster Management Cell
that functions actively and efficiently. It comprises of a Disaster Management Committee that looks
after all the wings of SHIS.
To educate and train the students for an unforeseen emergency like
fire or any natural calamity, Shalom Hills International School conducted a mock exercise and
evacuation drill on July 9.
Immediately after the sounding if the siren, the students were asked to leave their classes
and evacuate the school. Guided by the teachers the students collected in the play ground – the
allotted safe zone. Following all the safety measures, the entire senior and middle wing
building was successfully cleared within a span of 3 minutes and 5 minutes respectively.
The drill was organized to check the readiness of the school to face any such emergency during
any natural calamity and also to make the students and staff aware about the Fire Fighting
rescue operation and its procedure. These mock drills help in meeting the challenges in adverse
situations and in coping with the situation during the time of natural and man-made disaster.
Through various safeguards and campaigns, Shalom Hills International
School strives to make its teachers aware and up-to-date. Keeping this in mind, a workshop on
