Onam is the official state festival of Kerala. It is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm all over the state regardless of religion, caste or creed. According to a popular legend, the festival is celebrated to welcome King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit Kerala in the time of Onam.

Raksha Bandhan is a festival which celebrates the bond of affection between brothers and sisters. It is a day when siblings pray for each other’s well-being. Children celebrated this festival by making their own Rakhi in the school.

Children had a great time making this tri colour sandwich, and fun and easy to make tricolour fruity .This activity was thoroughly enjoyed by the kids. Kids enjoyed healthy and yummy sandwich and tricolour fruity thoroughly and were also introduced to the colours of our national flag in a delicious way.

Our children spoke about Freedom fighters of India and states of India through Show and tell activity. They displayed confidence and showed their sharp communication skills while doing this activity and learnt about the freedom fighters in an interesting way.

Orange color is associated with optimism and energy Children celebrated Orange color day. Most of them wore Orange color clothes, spoke about Orange colored objects and did a craft activity on the same.

The Shalom group of schools celebrated Founders Day with great gusto and vigour. The day began as a “Day of Gratitude” to our chairperson, Dr. Lilly George who envisioned the Shalom group upon the road to holistic education. Various interesting activities were conducted on this special occasion.

Make your own rainbow- Rainbow science experiment- Children enjoyed making their own rainbows by reflecting flashlight on a CD. They were also told about the 7 colors which make a rainbow

Van Mahotsav week- Children loved planting seeds in the soil during the Van Mahotsav week. They were made aware about importance of plants and trees and how they are essential for our survival

Leaf painting- Painting with leaves is a creative way for preschoolers to build their fine motor skills. Keeping this in mind, children carried out a leaf painting activity and made a beautiful tree out of it during the Van Mahotsav week.

To celebrate the endless contributions made by our labour force, ‘Labour Day’ is celebrated every year on 1st May with great zeal. Our little ones made ‘Thank You’ cards on this day to express their gratitude to our helpers. Overall, it was a fruitful day which taught our little ones to be thankful to everyone.

With the onset of summer, it is very important to hydrate ourselves with some cool drinks to beat the heat. Our little munchkins had a great time preparing the lemonade by squeezing out the lemon and adding some sugar in water followed by stirring the mixture. This activity was a fun-based learning experience for our little ones and they relished every bit of it.

Children were extremely thrilled to learn how to do the super easy static electricity experiment. After running a plastic comb/balloon through their hair, they placed the comb/balloon near small bits of paper and observed that those small pieces got stuck to them. They were explained that these induced an opposite charge in the paper. As opposite charges attract, the paper gets attracted to the comb/balloon.

The watermelon fun craft with paper was a perfect activity to beat the summer heat. Children found it super easy with the help of simple instructions given by the teacher. The little ones enjoyed this activity thoroughly.

The harvest festival of Baisakhi marks the beginning of the solar year, and falls on April 13th or 14th every year. One of the major festivals of the Sikhs, it is celebrated with much enthusiasm and gaiety in northern India. Children participated in a related activity to understand it’s significance.

This day marks the celebration of planet Earth, and endeavours to inspire awareness and appreciation for the environment. Students were taught the importance of keeping the earth clean and green. Children had a great time making funny face smiley sandwiches, using grated cheese and butter. Fun and easy to make, this activity was thoroughly enjoyed by the kids. Eyes and lips were made with tomato ketchup, and it was a treat not just for the eyes but also the palate!

Children arranged Rainbow colour fruits in an arc shape on a platter to resemble a rainbow. A dash of lime juice and seasoning was sprinkled on top to add to the taste. This activity was a great hit with the kids.

A class presentation was organized on 25^th and 26^th of July to show case what has been taught from April. Parents were invited and children spoke on topics such as exploring me, family, community helpers & UK.

Parents applauded the confidence  of children and appreciated the efforts of teachers.

An important stage in learning to read is the mastery of three letter words especially words in the format consonant/vowel. Children enjoyed writing ‘at’ words with the help of this technique.

 

Children enjoyed matching words with the related pictures which not only kept them busy but also helped them in gaining mastery of three letter words.

Hunting of words through flash cards is one of the effective techniques to enable children to learn reading and writing thereby gaining mastery over new words.Children enjoyed doing this activity with great interest.

Children were greeted warmly after a long summer break and they enjoyed meeting their friends and sharing their experiences with them.

An experiment based on “what absorbs more heat” was conducted along with the children where they were shown two glasses, one wrapped with white paper and the other one wrapped with black paper with equal amount of water .Both the glasses were kept in the sun for a couple of hours before returning to measure the water temperature our little Einsteins  observed that the water in the glass wrapped with black paper was hotter which proved that dark surfaces absorb more light and heat.

Children were introduced to letter ‘ Pp’ through pictures and objects that enabled them to learn its phonic sounds easily.

Children enjoyed making an origami house with the help of instructions given by the teacher and simply loved the activity.

Children enjoyed learning to identify numbers from 1 to 3 with the help of related objects. This number game enabled children to not only count but also included sequencing numbers.

Mother’s day is a day of appreciation towards mothers and mother figures worldwide. It is a celebration honouring the mother of the family and the influence of mothers in our society. Our little children were conveyed the message of love and gratitude for their respective mothers.

Children are pretty comfortable at counting forward but counting in reverse is more challenging for them. This was taught to them in a simple and interesting way through display of painted numbers on the floor.

Labour Day is celebrated every year on 1^st May .This day is celebrated to pay tribute to the contributions workers have made to make the world prosper. Our little ones expressed their gratitude to our workers by making cards and paper bags for them.

The ear is the organ of hearing through which sound waves are shuttled and the brain thereby interprets the information as a specific sound. Children enjoyed exploring the world of sound waves through the sound boxes given to them and they thoroughly enjoyed playing with them.

Tracing on blackboard is one of the innovative and fun based techniques of teaching children to learn writing letters. Children enjoyed writing this letter on blackboard.

Skating is a sport which everyone looks forward to. Children enjoy this physical activity immensely which is not only fun but also aims at improving flexibility and co-ordination.

Earth day aims to inspire awareness and appreciation for the earth’s environment. Our little children observed ‘Earth Day’ by offering services to mother earth such as planting the seeds, adding fertilizers and watering them. They were made aware of the importance of keeping it clean and green.

Letter B was introduced to our little ones with the help of B related objects such as ball,bird and beads which they really enjoyed.

Children enjoyed making touchy feely books where they pasted different textures of materials thereby learning about the role of the sense of touch. (For example sand paper ,Satin ribbon)

It was amazing to see the little ones learning to count with the help of beads.

This activity was greatly enjoyed by our little ones as it involved them describing and observing how the different items felt in the simple science feely bag. They discovered different textures of materials using their sense of touch.

Children enjoyed making sprouted moong salad and were told about the various health benefits on human body.

The best way for children to learn reading is by understanding the phonic sounds .This is best accomplished by using a phonetic alphabet where the sounds of the letters are taught. Children enjoyed learning this way through movement and rhythm which was great fun for them.

A simple experiment was conducted for the little ones to enable them to understand and learn about the importance of lungs. Children could easily understand and thoroughly enjoyed knowing so many facts.

Story telling session is a wonderful way to share the joy of reading .It improves language skills, vocabulary, sequencing, comprehension and recall .Story telling session stimulates the imagination giving the children plenty to think about. Children can be seen totally engrossed in the world of creativity and fantasy.

Baisakhi is one of the major festivals of Sikhs and is celebrated with lots of enthusiasm and gaiety in the state of Punjab. Children were in colorful attire to celebrate the occasion and were told about its significance.

Origami is the art of paper folding used for all folding practices. Children enjoyed transforming a flat sheet of paper into finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques.

Descriptions of taste are often associated with strong emotions. They express in words states of intense pleasure as well as displeasure. Sweet, sour, salty and bitter tastes were sensed by our children which gave them knowledge about the functioning of the tongue.

Children enjoyed making a collage of healthy versus junk food items thereby learning about differences between the two of them. They were given the  message that if healthy food is consumed, one stays fit and active.

Children enjoyed making easter eggs and decorating them which was not only fun but also involved their creativity and imagination.

Children were given practical demonstration to identify how to use their sense of smell to help them understand the world around them.

Children enjoys making binoculars allowing them to view things around them, thereby learning about the importance of eyes.

 It was pleasant sight to see little children engaged in playful activities  .           

It was a visual delight to see little children showing their creativity with colours and paints. Making  patterns on slates was equally enjoyable.

Children enjoyed colouring the pictures given to them using different colour combinations thereby expressing their creative side.

Holi was cerlebrated with great enthusiasm .Children enjoyed sprinkling  natural colours by each other.

One could sense a lot of positivity on the first day of school as the little ones and the parents were greeted warmly.The parents and the kids were happy to have the picture clicked.

Children had joyful experience of showing their culinary skills while making stuffed tomato basket. The students were called one by one to pour sweet corn in a bowl and mix it with salt and pepper. Tomatoes were scooped out and sweet corn was stuffed in the tomato with a dash of lemon juice by our little children.

Basant Panchami day is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of learning and wisdom. It is a popular festival that marks the end of the winter season and the coming of spring. Children wore bright yellow dresses on this day signifying the brilliance of nature and the vibrancy of life.

Exercise improves our energy and endurance and helps in development of reflexes and coordination. Children of MI are totally involved in the fitness routine thereby enjoying its benefits.
