BRIDGING GENERATIONS THROUGH EMPATHY AND COMPASSION 28th October 2026

Shalom Hills International School organised an enriching visit to Bashistha Kumar Memorial Old Age Home for students of Classes VII and VIII, in collaboration with HelpAge India. The initiative aimed to nurture empathy, compassion, gratitude and social responsibility among learners.

During the visit, students interacted warmly with the residents, listening to their childhood memories, personal journeys and life experiences. These conversations offered valuable insights into the wisdom and resilience of the elderly, fostering appreciation for their experiences and perspectives.

Adding a thoughtful touch, students presented handmade cards and gifts, including pen holders, which were warmly appreciated by the residents. A lively cultural session brought further cheer, as students sang songs and some residents joined in with melodies from their younger days. The gathering was filled with laughter, warmth and shared happiness, creating meaningful intergenerational connections.

The residents’ affection and blessings left a lasting impression on the students, reinforcing the importance of kindness, companionship and respect for the elderly. The visit served as a heartwarming reminder that small gestures of care can make a meaningful difference. It strengthened students’ understanding of empathy and gratitude while encouraging them to contribute positively to the community.
