In an era where students are increasingly connected through digital platforms, cyber awareness has become an essential life skill, empowering young learners to navigate the online world safely, responsibly, and ethically while protecting themselves from emerging cyber threats.
Guided by our esteemed Founder, Dr Mrs Lilly George, and visionary Sherpa & Vice Chairman - Mr. Dennis George, Shalom Hills International School organised a Cyber Awareness Workshop for students of Grades VI–XII. The workshop was conducted by renowned Cyber Safety Expert, Dr. Rakshit Tandon, with the objective of promoting responsible digital citizenship, cyber hygiene, and safe online behaviour.
Through engaging discussions and real-life examples, Dr. Tandon highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy digital diet, explaining how the principle of “Garbage In, Garbage Out” influences thoughts, behaviour, and decision-making. Students were cautioned against excessive screen time, unsafe gaming platforms, age-inappropriate content, and downloading APK or ZIP files that may contain malware and other cyber threats. The session also addressed Digital Dementia and its impact on memory, concentration, and overall well-being.
Key topics included cyberbullying, phishing, hacking, impersonation, deepfakes, VPNs, digital footprints, strong passwords, and two-factor authentication. Using authentic cybercrime case studies, Dr. Tandon sensitised students to online fraud, identity theft, gaming scams, and cyber extortion, while encouraging prompt reporting through the National Cyber Crime Helpline (1930).
The workshop concluded with a powerful message: Human Intelligence must guide the ethical and responsible use of technology, empowering students to become vigilant, informed, and cyber-aware digital citizens.
