Shalom Hills International School organised a virtual international exchange through WorldClassroom, bringing together students of Grade VIII and two teachers for an engaging interaction with Japanese students. The programme aimed to promote cross-cultural understanding, communication skills and global-mindedness through experiential learning.
The session featured Daily Life Bingo, an interactive activity that encouraged students to explore the everyday routines, habits and experiences of their international peers. Using the Bingo sheet as a conversation starter, students shared personal experiences, responded to prompts and discovered similarities and differences in their lifestyles.
The activity provided an engaging platform for students to move beyond textbook learning and develop a broader understanding of cultural diversity. Through meaningful conversations, they practised active listening, expressed their thoughts confidently and learned to appreciate perspectives different from their own.
The virtual exchange also highlighted how shared everyday experiences can foster connections across geographical and cultural boundaries. The interactive format encouraged curiosity, respectful communication and collaboration, making the session both enjoyable and enriching.
Students strengthened their oral communication, interpersonal and active listening skills while developing intercultural awareness and confidence in engaging with international peers. They gained an appreciation of diverse lifestyles and recognised the common experiences that unite young people across cultures.
The WorldClassroom initiative reinforced Shalom Hills International School’s commitment to global learning, nurturing open-minded, culturally sensitive and confident learners prepared to thrive in an interconnected world.
