The Principal, senior faculty members and the Health & Wellness Department of Shalom Hills International School participated in an enriching professional development session on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), student agency, career development and future readiness, led by Prof. V. Scott Solberg at Shalom Presidency School.
Prof. Solberg emphasised that preparing students for the future extends beyond academic achievement and conventional career choices. Schools must empower learners to understand their strengths, interests, values and aspirations, while developing the confidence to make informed decisions.
The session introduced the “Tell Me More” approach, encouraging educators to remain curious about students’ aspirations, including unconventional interests. Hobbies, gaming and creative pursuits were highlighted as potential avenues for developing transferable skills such as collaboration, problem-solving and technical proficiency.
The discussion also explored immersive learning, civic engagement, professional interactions and mentorship as pathways to strengthen self-efficacy and connect learning with real-world opportunities. Linking student purpose with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), respecting cultural identity and engaging parents through student-led portfolios were identified as meaningful practices.
The session concluded with actionable directions, including strengthening the CBSE Counselling Hub & Spoke Model, enriching Kaushal Bodh through SDG-linked reflection, and developing strength-based career planning for CWSN students—further advancing Shalom’s commitment to nurturing adaptable, self-aware and future-ready learners.
